Transportation Secretary Tugade denies having hand in Chavez’s resignation

(Eagle News) — Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade on Thursday  clarified that he had nothing to do with Transportation Undersecretary Cesar Chavez’s resignation.

“For the record and contrary to the insinuations of others, I did not cause (his resignation)…We have been doing plans and strategies together up and until yesterday,” Tugade said in a brief statement.

He said Chavez, the Department of Transportation’s undersecretary for rails, “has (his) full trust and confidence.”

“I am surprised by the very sudden turn of events,” Tugade said.

Chavez tendered his “irrevocable resignation” amid the series of technical glitches that have marred the Metro Rail Transit.

He said he hoped that President Rodrigo Duterte would appoint someone who was more qualified than him, noting at the same time that more could be done to improve railway services.
