SC resets oral arguments on consolidated petition vs PHL’s ICC withdrawal anew

(Eagle News) — The Supreme Court has reset anew oral arguments on the consolidated petition challenging the Philippines’ withdrawal from the International Criminal Court.

SC spokesperson Theodore Te said the debate on the petition filed by opposition senators Leila De Lima, Francis Pangilinan, Franklin Drilon, Bam Aquino, Risa Hontiveros, and Antonio Trillanes IV, and of the Philippine Coalition for the ICC was now scheduled on  Aug. 14 from Aug. 7.

They  cited as a reason for their plea to have the SC declare as “invalid” the country’s withdrawal from the ICC the alleged absence of the concurrence of at least 2/3 of the Senate.

Te said the SC also asked Solicitor General Jose Calida to comment, within five days, on De Lima’s plea she be allowed to represent herself during oral arguments.

The SC first scheduled oral arguments on July 24, but reset it to Aug. 7. Moira Encina
