Sara Duterte opposes Midas Marquez’s SC bid

(Eagle News)—-Davao Mayor Sara Duterte is opposing the bid of Supreme Court Administrator Midas Marquez as SC justice.

This was revealed during Marquez’s Judicial and Bar Council interview on Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Earlier, the mayor said she was opposing the appointment of an SC post aspirant who had been trying to have the case filed against her for punching of a court sheriff in 2011 dismissed.

She had said as a result, he lacked the values needed of an SC justice in the first place.

Marquez was asked whether he knew Gemma Sotto, who had reportedly gone to Davao to approach the mayor on his behalf.

“There are a lot of well-meaning friends and acquaintances who are offering their help, I would just say thank you without me knowing what they are going to do and without knowing the extent that they will be doing whatever,” Marquez answered.

He admitted he hired the son of Sotto as contractual legal clerk.

“(But) I am so rest assured with my qualifications, my credentials, my track record that for me, these qualifications will stand on their own merit. But I cannot tell all these well-meaning friends that no, I do not need your help,” Marquez said.
