BERLIN, Germany (Reuters) — Hollywood actors Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling kicked off their promotion tour for “Bladerunner 2049” in Berlin on Monday (September 18), more than 35 years after the original neo-noir science fiction classic by director Ridley Scott debuted.
After a ‘director’s cut’, which was released in 1992′ and a ‘Final Cut’ in 2007, the sequel by Canadian director Denis Villeneuve is scheduled to be released globally on October 6.
It stars Gosling as new Blade Runner LAPD officer K, who discovers a long-hidden secret that has the potential to plunge what is left of the world into chaos.
His discovery leads him to the original blade runner, played by Harrison Ford, who reprises his role as Rick Deckard. Jared Leto, Ana de Armas and Robin Wright star in supporting roles.
“It is a remarkable piece of work, of which I am very proud,” Ford told reporters at the news conference in Berlin, pretending to not being capable of remembering his co-star’s first name.
Gosling spoke about his first encounter with science fiction.
“I have never made a science fiction film before, I am glad that I waited since this is a wonderful way to do it. It was I think you know a very unique experience in science fiction. First of all I associate science fiction with Blade Runner. I think it’s the first experience with science fiction I probably had,” Gosling said.
He said it was also “interesting to visit the future in this way, because you know these characters are, although the film is a spectacle in a lot of ways, you know it is so massive conceptually.”
“The world is so beautiful even though it is sort of a nightmare,” he added.
