(Eagle News) — Russia is set to donate assault rifles and military trucks to the Philippines.

The planned donations were unveiled by President Rodrigo Duterte in a speech prior to the groundbreaking of Scout Rangers Ville on Wednesday, and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, who accompanied him.

Lorenzana told reporters that the 5000 Kalashnikovs and 20 military trucks would be turned over to the Philippine government later this month.

The Kalashnikov is a brand of assault rifles made in Russia.

“Darating yung barko nila dito sa October 22, which is about two weeks from now. Tapos yung turnover ng mga equipment, mga baril sa 25 sa Manila,” Lorenzana said.

Duterte said the donations were the fruit of his trip to Russia in May.
