Roque: China’s Xi Jinping to visit PHL in November

(Eagle News) — Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the Philippines in November.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the revelation on Tuesday night.

According to Roque, the visit will take place after Xi’s participation in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Papua New Guinea.

This will have been Xi’s first visit to the Philippines since his visit in November 2015, when the 27th Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit was held under then-President Benigno Aquino III.

Philippines-China relations took a sour turn with Aquino, who asked the arbitration court to intervene in the Philippines’ dispute with China in the South China Sea.

The Permanent Court of Arbitration sided with the Philippines in its July 2016 ruling.

When President Rodrigo  Duterte assumed office, he opted for closer ties with China.
