(Eagle News) — The lawyer of Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday, Aug. 15, hit back at President Rodrigo Duterte after he again belittled her leadership abilities.
“Mga ‘competent’ ayon sa Pangulo: Tourism Secretary na walang ginawa kundi mangurakot, (National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council) head na nawawala kapag baha, (National Food Authority) chief na naubusan ng bigas. Kanya na ‘yung endorsement niya, sumunod na lang tayo sa Konstitusyon,” Barry Gutierrez said in a Facebook post.
He noted that Duterte appeared to have forgotten now-Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, who was the chief executive’s running mate in the 2016 elections.
On Tuesday, Aug. 14, President Duterte questioned Robredo’s ability to lead the country, saying he would step down if “the likes of” Bongbong Marcos and Chiz Escudero would succeed him.
“Pasensiya na siya, pero talo si BBM at Chiz noong eleksyon…. hanggang dito ba naman nakalimutan pa rin si Alan?” Gutierrez asked.
Marcos, Escudero and Cayetano lost to Robredo in the 2016 elections.
Marcos, however, has filed an electoral protest against Robredo.
In a previous speech, Duterte said Robredo was “incompetent.”
Robredo, however, urged the chief executive to instead focus on what she said were the country’s economic problems.
