Robredo camp asks PET to disregard SolGen’s stance on ballot shading threshold

(Eagle News) — The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo has asked the Presidential Electoral Tribunal to disregard the Solicitor General’s stance that the 50 percent ballot shading threshold be used in the ongoing manual recount.

The manual recount stems from the electoral protest filed by former Senator Bongbong Marcos against Robredo, who was declared the winner in the vice presidential polls.

In a July 13 plea, Romulo Macalintal, Robredo’s lawyer, called the OSG’s conclusion that the application of the 50 percent threshold does not disenfranchise voters “reckless.”

Macalintal said that in the first place,  the OSG has no basis to make such a conclusion.

“In no instance has OSG, any of its representatives and/or lawyers, attended and observed the ongoing revision, recount, and re-appreciation of ballots,” he said.

The OSG shares Marcos’ opinion on the ballot shading threshold.

Robredo shares the Commission on Elections’ view a 25 percent threshold should be used.
