Robredo asks PET to junk Marcos’ appeal vs use of decrypted ballot images in recount

(Eagle News) — Vice President Leni Robredo has asked the Presidential Electoral Tribunal to junk former Senator Ferdinand Marcos’ request for the decrypted ballot images not to be used in the manual recount.

In her counter-manifestation with comment and opposition, Robredo said Marcos’ petition should be dismissed for lack of merit because he has shown no evidence the integrity of ballot images was compromised.

Earlier, the PET ordered the use in the recount of the decrypted ballot images of the wet and destroyed ballots from 25 clustered precincts in Camarines Sur and Iloilo.

The manual recount stems from the electoral protest filed by Marcos, who ran against Robredo in the 2016 elections.

But Marcos opposed this, noting that the ballot images contained squares instead of ovals.

Robredo’s lawyers said, however, that the Commission on Elections already said the squares were part of new security features. Moira Encina
