PSG officer dead in Malacañang Park incident

(Eagle News) — Authorities on Tuesday said a gunshot  was heard from inside Malacañang Park on Tuesday  because a member of the Presidential Security Group had shot himself.

In  a press conference on Tuesday, Brigadier General Lope Dagoy, head of the PSG, said it was still unclear though if Major Harim Gonzaga had committed suicide or accidentally shot himself to death.

“Certainly, there is no foul play,” Dagoy said.

According to Dagoy, the lifeless body of  Gonzaga, 37, was found  by his wife Sheila inside their quarters at 8:50 a.m.

Gonzaga, who is tasked with creating the schedules of PSG personnel, had a lone gunshot wound in his chest.

A Norinco .45 cal. was also recovered in the area.

Dagoy said prior to this, Gonzaga had been telling his wife he had a lot of work to do.

The PSG chief said they were waiting for results of the autopsy  to be conducted by the Scene of the Crime Operatives before making any conclusion.

He said the incident took place far from President Rodrigo Duterte’s residence.

He added, however, that this was the first time an incident of this sort took place in Malacañang Park.
