President Duterte will not declare martial law – Palace

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — Malacañang hit the media for being irresponsible in reporting that President Rodrigo Duterte will declare martial law.

This after President Duterte made a statement in front of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Marco Polo Hotel on Saturday where he had insisted he has no ambition to stay in power or to declare martial law.

Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said that the media committed “misreporting” as regard the President’s statement, adding that the President already said earlier that he is not in favor of martial law and that he believes that martial law did not improved the lives of Filipinos.

In his speech, the President said: “So those who are thinking itong mga taga-Maynila about Martial Law, lengthening your stay, it’s bullshit. You know, if you will ask me, frankly, are you exceedingly happy or am I exceedingly happy, pleased or — being the President of the Philippines? I will answer you this one thing: I do not need the position at this time of my life. Hindi ko na kailangan ito.”
