President Duterte slams critics of his attire during ASEAN Summit, says “I dress for comfort, not to impress”

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte reacted to comments about his attire during the 31st ASEAN Summit, where many took notice of his wrinkled Barong Tagalog with sleeves folded up to his elbows.

“I dress to be comfortable not to impress anyone,” the President said.

The statement was made after many netizens criticized the President’s wrinkled barong with folded sleeves during the 31st ASEAN Summit that was held in Pasay City last week.

“You know, I dress not to please anybody. I dress to be comfortable. That’s why I rarely wear an Americana (coat and tie). (For) one, it is not an attire for the Filipino. It’s too hot to wear,” President Duterte said during the launching of a program for farmers and fisherfolk in Davao.

The President said that he wore what is comfortable for him and not to please anyone.

“I was there presiding not to please the figures, the prime ministers and presidents. Dito lang ako comfortable (I am comfortable this way),” he added.
