President Duterte meets VP Robredo for the first time after inauguration

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte met Vice-President Leni Robredo on Friday, July 1 for the first time after their separate inauguration ceremonies on Thursday (June 30).

The occasion was the turn-over ceremonies at the Armed Forces of the Philippines in Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City where the new AFP chief of Staff, Lieutenant. Gen. Ricardo Visaya took his oath of office.

Visaya replaced AFP Lt. Gen. Glorioso Miranda.

Duterte also referred to Robredo while he was making his speech,

“I would have preferred to be seated beside you, pero nandyan si Defense (Secretary),” the President said drawing cheers from the audience.




 

Robredo sat next to outgoing AFP chief of Staff Glorioso Miranda.

President Duterte and Vice-President Robredo shook hands and were both smiling when they met at the AFP turn-over ceremonies.

Robredo described the meeting as “cordial”. She said that she asked President Duterte if she could set a meeting with him for a courtesy call to which Duterte replied, “Anytime.”

 

Robredo had a separate inauguration from Duterte on June 30.   Her oath-taking took place at the Quezon City Reception House at 9 a.m., while Duterte’s inauguration was held at the Rizal Hall in Malacanang.  The President took his oath at exactly 12 noon.   (Eagle News Service)
