(Eagle News) – President Rodrigo Duterte greeted members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo as they celebrated the 103rd anniversary of the Church and commended the leadership of INC Executive Minister Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, which he said empowered Church members in making a “positive impact” to society.

“I join the members of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) in celebration of their 103rd Anniversary,” he said.

“For more than a century, the faith of the INC has served as a firm foundation of our country’s resilience in facing the challenges of an ever-changing world.”

President Duterte also lauded the INC’s “devotion to the abiding truth of God’s love” which he said had “nurtured our community and cultivated deep compassion among our people.”

Contribution to nation-building

“As you celebrate this milestone, may you continue to manifest your faith by serving those in the margins and contributing to nation-building,” he said.

The Iglesia Ni Cristo is known for its various community projects, most notable of which is the “Lingap sa Mamamayan” or “Aid to Humanity” which is done not only here in the Philippines, but also in other parts of the world.

The INC had recently conducted “Aid to Humanity” projects, helping poor residents in certain areas of Africa, Asia, Australia and Latin America. There were also various socio-civic projects in Europe and North America.

More recently, it also extended its help to the displaced residents of Marawi City, sending about 100,000 relief packages – consisting of food and non-food items – to evacuation centers in Iligan City and Balo-i, Lanao del Norte.

INC as faithful partners for meaningful change

“I commend the leadership of INC for empowering its flock to make a positive impact in the lives of our fellowmen. Your mission of doing God’s work here on earth is both inspiring and laudable,” President Duterte said in his message to the INC.

“With you as our faithful partners, I am confident that we can bring positive and meaningful change in our society and build a better and brighter future for every Filipino.”

“Congratulations and we wish INC’s members around the world all the best,” he said.
