The Philippine National Police on Tuesday, June 19, gave a posthumous award to the Isabela town police chief who was recently killed in a buy-bust operation.

PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde personally gave the award to the kin of Michael Angelo Tubaña, head of the Mallig town police force who was shot dead  while conducting the operation in Barangay Centro 1 on Sunday, June 17.

The subjects of the operation, Warren Bulawit, 19, and a minor are now under police custody.

According to Albayalde, the two were involved in several drugs and motorcycle theft cases and were on the police’s list of rogue individuals.

He said it was Bulawit himself who admitted to killing Tubaña, a member of the Philippine National Police Academy Class of 2011.

“Binigyan natin (siya) ng PNP heroism medal para marecognize ang kadakilaan niya sa bayan. Napakasipag niya, siya mismo umiikot, siya sumisita doon sa tao,” Albayalde said.

Tubaña’s family is also slated to receive financial assistance from the PNP and from the Office of the President.
