PNP: Death toll due to Typhoon “Ompong” reaches 59

(Eagle News)–At least 59 people were killed due to Typhoon “Ompong,” the Philippine National Police reported on Sunday, Sept. 16.

Data from the police showed that of the 59, one was in Region I, seven in Region II, one in Region III, 49 in the Cordillera Administrative Region, and one in Metro Manila.

According to the police, 33 were injured— three were from Region I, 20 from CAR, seven from Region II, one from Region III and two from Metro Manila.

Sixteen people were also missing–one from Region III, one from Region VI, 13 from CAR and one from Metro Manila.

Police are also searching for possible survivors from a landslide in Benguet.

According to the police, 25953 families remain in evacuation centers.

Of the figure, 5216 are in Region 1, 13977 in Region 3, 103 in Region 6, 6656 in CAR and one in Metro Manila.

“Ompong,” which made landfall in northern Luzon, brought heavy rains triggering flooding, landslides and flash floods, among others, in parts of the country.

The typhoon exited the Phiippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday night.
