PNP: Communist groups may be behind explosions in Masbate, Sultan Kudarat

(Eagle News) — The Philippine National Police is looking at the possibility Communist groups were behind the recent explosions in Sultan Kudarat and in Masbate.

In a press conference, PNP Spokesperson Senior Supt. Benigno Durana said this was based on evidence they found in the scenes.

According to Durana, the orange PVC pipes found were the “preferred materials” of Communist groups in their attacks.

Durana said also recovered were “scattered parts of the speedboats.”

Earlier, authorities said they were looking at the possibility that the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters were behind the attacks in Isulan that left at least five dead.

Authorities said several boats were also damaged after an explosion ripped through the Masbate port early Sunday, Sept. 2.

President Rodrigo Duterte canceled peace talks with the Communist rebels last year, following what he said were their abuses that include the killing of a baby.
