PNP accepts court decision allowing Baldo to post bail

(Eagle News)—The Philippine National Police on Wednesday, Feb. 13, said it “accepts” the decision of a court that granted bail to Daraga, Albay Mayor Carlwyn Baldo.

“As the premier law enforcement agency, the PNP bows to the majesty of the law..,” PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Bernard Banac said.

He said the PNP shall instead “monitor (Baldo’s) movements from time to time and account for his presence during court hearings.”

A Legazpi court allowed Baldo to post bail of P3 million in cash or P4 million in property bond for the charges of illegal possession of firearms.

These charges stem from the police’s recovery of  two .45-caliber pistols, M203 grenade ammunition, eight bullets for .45-caliber, a live M16 bullet and a magazine for an UZI machine pistol from a search of his house in January.

Murder charges were also filed against Baldo in connection with the deaths of Rep. Rodel Batocabe and his security aide, SP02 Orlando Diaz in December last year.

Six other suspects were also charged.
