Photographs of US warship after collision with tanker near Singapore

(Reuters) — Ten sailors are missing after a United States warship collided with an oil tanker east of Singapore on Monday (August 21), the US Navy said, the second accident involving US Navy destroyers in Asian waters in little more than two months.

Still photographs released by the Malaysian Royal Navy, which is involved in the search and rescue along with Singaporean ships, helicopters and tug boats, as well as US Navy aircraft, showed damage to the port side of the warship.

The guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain collided with the merchant vessel Alnic MC while heading to Singapore for a routine port call, the Navy said in a statement.

The waterways around Singapore are some of the busiest and most important in the world, carrying around a third of global shipping trade.
