PET denies Marcos’ bid for Caguioa to inhibit from poll protest case

(Eagle News) — The Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, has junked former Senator Bongbong Marcos’ request for Associate Justice Alfredo Caguioa to inhibit from the electoral protest he filed against Vice President Leni Robredo.

According to the PET, Caguioa, despite what Marcos said were his ties with former President Benigno Aquino III, his classmate, “has been nothing but impartial.”

It was Aquino, a party-mate of Robredo, who appointed Caguioa to the SC.

“Parenthetically, it may be worthy to note that Justice Caguioa and protestant’s spouse, Atty. Liza Araneta-Marcos, were classmates in Ateneo Law School,” the PET said.

The PET added all decisions in the poll protest have been reached through an en banc majority vote.
