Paolo Duterte asks Davao court to cancel bail granted to Trillanes for libel

(Eagle News)– Paolo Duterte has asked a Davao court to cancel the bail it granted to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV for libel.

In making the plea in a motion filed before Branch 54 on Jan. 4, the former Davao vice mayor, through his lawyers, argued Trillanes “flagrantly violated the conditions of his bail and (the) court’s custody over him” when he left for the United States without seeking the court’s permission allegedly to attend speaking engagements.

Earlier, Judge Melinda Alconcel-Dayanghirang granted bail to Trillanes for the four counts of libel filed against him, ruling he was not a flight risk after he voluntarily surrendered following the issuance of warrants of arrest against the senator.

The four counts of libel stem from Trillanes’ claims the presidential son was linked to drug smuggling and extortion in ride-sharing service Uber and other companies.

Trillanes is also slated to leave for Europe on Jan. 27 after he was given the go-signal to go abroad by a Makati court, where he faces separate rebellion and coup d’etat charges in connection with his involvement in the Oakwood mutiny and the Peninsula Manila siege in 2003 and 2007.
