Panelo: No special treatment for four Chinese behind floating shabu lab in Subic

(Eagle News) — The Palace on Thursday, Dec. 20, gave the assurance the four Chinese nationals who were recently convicted for operating a floating shabu laboratory in Subic will not be given special treatment.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, however, also assured the families of Win Fai Lo, Kam Wah Kwok, Shu Fook Leung and Kwok Tung Chan they “will be given proper treatment in prison, and they will be humanely treated in accordance with the Bill of Rights under our Constitution, as well as with appropriate Philippine laws and rules.”

The four Chinese nationals were sentenced to life imprisonment by Judge Roline Ginez-Jabalde of Olongapo City Regional Trial Court Branch 74.

According to Panelo, the Palace was “also coordinating with the Department of Justice (DOJ) on the possibility of deportation to finally rid this country of these foreign criminals.”

Just the same, he said the Palace “considers this development as clear proof of the government’s unrelenting war against illegal drugs, which spares no one who violates our laws.”

Earlier, the families of the four Chinese asked the Philippine government, through a letter sent to the Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong, to respect the rights of the convicts.
