Palace welcomes Senate approval of proposed 2019 national budget

(Eagle News) — The Palace on Tuesday, Jan. 22, welcomed the Senate’s approval of the proposed 2019 national budget.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the approval of both the Senate and the House of Representatives of the proposed budget will “lay the groundwork for an anticipated impressive economic performance.”

A bicameral conference committee is slated to meet to reconcile their versions of the General Appropriations Bill.

Earlier, the Senate deleted the P75 billion allotted for Department of Public Works and Highways projects following allegations the DPWH itself had no knowledge of the “insertion” done by the Department of Budget Management.

Senator Panfilo Lacson had proposed the P75 billion be used for :”slope protection work” in Cordillera roads.

“The passage of the GAB [General Appropriations Bill] will certainly continue our march to national progress and development,” Panelo said.
