Palace urges public to respect SC decision upholding Sereno ouster as Chief Justice with finality

(Eagle News) — The Palace on Tuesday, June 19, urged the public to respect the  Supreme Court decision that upheld with finality Maria Lourdes Sereno’s ouster as Chief Justice.

“Like it or hate it, we have to succumb to the SC decision that is now a final and executory decision,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.

According to Roque, “ang hinihingi ng Presidente (Rodrigo Duterte) ngayon ay magsama sama muli ang samabayanang Pilipino.”

Roque said the President himself respects the decision.

“Ipapatupad po yan ng ating presidente,” Roque said.

“We wish her good luck in her everyday life as a private individual,” Roque added, referring to Sereno.

In upholding its May 11 ruling that nullified Sereno’s appointment as chief magistrate, the SC, voting 8-6, said she did not present new arguments that warrant a reversal of the decision.

In nullifying her appointment, the SC had said Sereno lacked the integrity required of an applicant to the Chief Justice post when she did not file her Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth as a law professor at the University of the Philippines.
