Palace on Sotto proposal to change last line of national anthem: Bahala na po ang Kongreso

(Eagle News) — For the Palace, changing the last line of “Lupang Hinirang” as proposed by Senator Tito Sotto is not a priority.

As such, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the Palace was leaving it up to Congress to decide on whether the change in the “Aming ligaya na ‘pag may mang-aapi, ang mamatay nang dahil sa iyo” line would push through.

Sotto is proposing that it be changed to “Aming ligaya na pag may nang-aapi, ang ipaglaban kalayaan mo’” instead, to erase what he said appeared to be a defeatist attitude.

“Bahala na po ang Kongreso diyan,” Roque said.

“Mas maraming mas matitinding problema na dapat harapin,” Roque added.

Sotto made the proposal during a hearing on Senator Richard Gordon’s proposal to add a ninth ray to the sun in the Philippine flag.

Gordon said the ninth ray would represent the Muslims who fought against foreign invaders.
