Palace condemns Cavite town vice mayor’s killing; calls for “fair, thorough” police probe

(Eagle News)–The Palace on Saturday, July 6, “strongly condemned” the killing of Trece Martires, Cavite Vice Mayor Alex Lubigan, the third high-ranking local government official to be killed this month.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque also called on the Philippine National Police  “to conduct a fair and thorough investigation and spare no effort in getting to the bottom of this latest crime.”

“We must band together and put an end to the worrisome incidents of violence involving local politicians,” Roque said.

Lubigan was killed on the spot after assailants on board a black Mitsubishi Montero fired at the Toyota Hilux, with conduction sticker YV4077, he was using.

Lubigan’s driver was also killed, while their other companion was seriously injured.

The vice mayor’s killing took place days after Tanauan, Batangas Mayor Antonio Halili and General Tinio, Nueva Ecija Mayor Ferdinand Bote were slayed.

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año, however, said that the Bote and Halili killings were “not at all related.”
