Palace: Chinese President Xi to embark on state visit to PHL from Nov. 20 to 21

(Eagle News) — Chinese President Xi Jinping will be on a state visit to the Philippines from Nov. 20 to 21.

This was announced by Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo in a statement on Thursday, Nov. 15.

According to Panelo, the visit was upon the invitation of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Xi will have been the first Chinese president to make a state visit to the Philippines in 13 years.

In 2005, Chinese President Hu Jintao embarked on a state visit to the Philippines.

“During the State Visit, the two Leaders will exchange views on areas of mutual concern and chart the course for the future of Philippines-China bilateral relations,” Panelo said in a statement.

Duterte has opted for friendlier ties with the Philippines’ Asian neighbor since he assumed the presidency in 2016.
