Palace: Chinese ambassador “impressed” with “professionalism, restraint” of policeman in MRT-3 taho-throwing incident

(Eagle News) — Chinese ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua was “impressed” with the “professionalism and restraint” shown by the policeman who was thrown a cup of taho by a Chinese national only recently.

This was according to Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, who spoke to reporters in a press conference on Thursday, Feb. 21.

According to Panelo, during his courtesy call on Wednesday, Feb. 20, Zhao “extended his greeting and commendation” to P01 William Cristobal.

Zhao also reiterated the Chinese government “does not tolerate” behavior such as that exhibited by Jiale Zhang.

“In fact he said that in the Philippines, we should prosecute foreign nationals, including Chinese, who violate our laws,” Panelo said.

Early this month, Zhang, who was not allowed entry to the Metro Rail Transit 3’s Boni station because of a then-ongoing ban on liquids, splashed the bean curd drink at Cristobal, who was merely explaining to her the MRT 3 policy.

The policy was implemented following the Jolo, Sulu blasts that killed at least 23 in January.

Cristobal received an award from the Philippine National Police following the incident.

Zhang, on the other hand, is now facing charges.

She has apologized for the incident.
