No smoking nationwide!

QUEZON City, Philippines (November 7) – President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration is setting up a nationwide smoking ban.

That means that smoking in all public places will no longer be allowed. Said ban is expected to be effective this year. Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial said that the Department of Health already submitted a draft Executive Order to the President.

Many Filipinos are in accord with the government’s plan to stop smoking in public places. And in case you’re wondering what the phrase “public places” covers, it includes parks, public vehicles,  bus stations  and waiting sheds.

Of course, there would be penalties for those who would be caught violating the nationwide ban. Said ban is already implemented in Davao City – since the days of then Mayor Duterte’s administration.

The ban is garnering lots of positive response from the internet. After all, smoking is a major health threat – not just to the smokers themselves – but also to those who breathe in the smoke.

As mentioned earlier, the ban will cover the whole Philippines. One can just hope that it would be implemented equally wherever and whenever in the archipelago.

As a student, I really admire the Duterte Administration on taking big steps on stopping drug addiction in our country. Being a disciplined citizen will not just help our country but also,  ultimately, ourselves.

After all, what’s good for the Philippines is also good for the Filipinos.
