Ombudsman suspends DAR exec

(Eagle News)– Ombudsman Conchita Carpio has ordered a one year suspension for Provincial Agrarian Reform Adjudicator Romeo Covarrubias due to immorality and unjustified absences.

The results of an investigation conducted by Office of the Ombudsman revealed that Covarrubias mingled with another woman and even introduced her as his wife despite being married to his legal spouse.

Covarrubias , who was stationed in DAR Davao Oriental, was also found to have reported for work for only 65 working days over an eight month period , from May to December 2013.

In its decision, the office finds Covarrubias as “willful and shameless, and show a moral indifference to the opinion of his co-employees and the public.” His suspension for a year will be without pay.

Once his suspension can no longer be carried out if he’s separated from service, the Ombudsman said the penalty will be converted into a fine equivalent to a year’s salary.
