NPC, Grab: No automatic sharing of Uber data with Grab

(Eagle News) –The personal data of Uber users and drivers will not be automatically shared with Grab.

This was the assurance given by  the National Privacy Commission and Grab itself in a press conference on Friday.

“There is no path for us to take Uber’s data. The data that we have received from Uber is only upon consent and that is only on the drivers’ side,” Brian Cu, Grab Philippines country head, said.

According to NPC Commissioner Raymund Liboro, “there will be concept-based onboarding of drivers and users need to download Grab’s app.”

In a joint statement, the NPC and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said Grab “must implement appropriate organizational, physical, and technical security measures, if the acquisition will involve any personal data processing.”

The Uber app can no longer be used starting April 8.
