No Filipinos reported dead, missing in Oman after powerful storm — DFA

(Eagle News) — The Department of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday that it had received no reports of Filipinos casualties after a powerful storm hit Oman on Saturday, May 26.

There were also no Filipinos listed among the missing, the DFA said.

The Philippine Embassy in Muscat continues to monitor the situation in Salalah, Oman’s second largest city, and is in touch with members of the Filipino Community there, a department release said.

Ambassador Narciso Castañeda said tropical cyclone Mekunu struck Oman and dumped the equivalent of two years worth of rain in a single day, triggering floods. At least three persons died and 30 reported missing in the storm.

There are 49,000 Filipinos in Oman, including around 10,000 in Salalah.
