New witness vs. Duterte to back up Matobato’s claims, says lawyer

(Eagle News)– Jude Sabio, legal counsel of alleged hitman Edgar Matobato, on Friday (December 9) announced they will produce a new witness to support his client’s claims against President Rodrigo Duterte.

According to Sabio, the witness allegedly saw Duterte shoot a person in Davao City in May 2012.

Before this announcement, Sabio filed complaints on behalf of Matobato against the President and 27 others over their alleged involvement with the so-called Davao Death Squad (DDS).

Matobato, who also claimed to be a former member of DDS, filed a complaint with the Office of the Ombudsman against Duterte for murder, kidnapping, the Anti-Torture Act, and violations of R.A. No. 9851, or the Philippine Act on Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law, Genocide, and Other Crimes Against Humanity.

Also included in the complaint were the President’s eldest son, Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, and Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa, who was the former head of Davao City police.
