Nat’l Meat Inspection Service, other gov’t agencies should be more vigilant following bird flu outbreak, says lawmaker

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — Mindoro Occidental Representative Josephine Ramirez Sato  asked government agencies to be vigilant to ensure that no contaminated poultry products will be sold to consumers following the outbreak of the bird flu virus in San Luis, Pampanga.

Sato said that the government agencies should strictly monitor the movement of poultry products even if the strain found in the affected area cannot be transmitted to humans.

She also called on the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) and other animal health industries to help the Department of Agriculture in addressing the issue.

“The NMIS should make sure that no chicken meat products will be sold in the market that may expose consumers to undue public health risks,” she added.
