MANILA, Dec. 26 (PNA) — Malacanang on Monday urged the public to stay alert as typhoon “Nina” continues to pound Southern Tagalog and Bicol region.
“We ask the public to stay alert regarding typhoon Nina,” Presidential Communication Office (PCO) Secretary Martin Andanar said in a press statement.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Service Administration (PAGASA), Nina entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) early Saturday morning.
The weather bureau raised typhoon signals in at least 38 areas, leaving thousands of passengers going to provinces to spend Christmas vacations stranded in many ports affected by the typhoon.
“We advise the public to get regular updates from PAGASA and other government websites or social media accounts,” Andanar said.
At present, the areas under storm signal No. 3 are southern Quezon, Marinduque, northern Oriental Mindoro, Lubang Island and Laguna.
On the other hand, storm signal No. 2 has been raised in Metro Manila, Rizal, northern Quezon including Polilio Islands, Bulacan, Bataan, Pampanga, Southern Zambales, rest of Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, northern Occidental Mindoro, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur.
Andanar said the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to monitor typhoon Nina and has activated its Response Clusters to monitor and facilitate emergency response human assistance.
The DSWD has a total of 39,801 Family Food Packs (FFPs) on stock at its National Resource Operations Center (NROC) “of which, 18,923 FFPs are available for allocation while the 20,878 FFPs are for delivery to different field offices. (PNA)
