Islamist terrorists also using drones to check on gov’t forces’ position in Marawi

(Eagle News) — The Islamist terrorists are also using “drones” to check on the position of government forces.

Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, spokesperson of the 1st Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, said that they first noticed that the enemy, including the Maute Group, was using drones in the first two weeks of the fight.

The drones were the kind that can be bought in malls or other commercial establishments.

“During the first two weeks, mayroon tayong mga nakita na gumagamit din yung kalaban ng drone. Part ito ng surveillance intelligence (ng Maute group),” Herrera said.

Aside from drones, they could be using other forms of technology to determine the position of soldiers and policemen doing clearing operations in Marawi City.

Herrera explained that the Maute was also using the drones to evade the advancing government forces.

He said there were instances that government forces were able to take down some of the enemy’s drones during the ongoing fighting in Marawi City.
