MPD identifies at least 8 Aegis Juris frat members, 3 sister sorority members who participated in Castillo hazing rites

(Eagle News) — The police have identified at least eight members of the Aegis Juris fraternity who participated in the hazing rites that led to the death of Horacio Castillo III.

In a television interview on Friday, Chief Supt. Joel Coronel, Manila Police district director, said apart from the at least eight, three women from the fraternity’s sister sorority, Regina Juris et Legis, have also been identified as being present in the vicinity of the Aegis Juris fraternity library at the corner of Laong Laan and Navarra Streets in Sampaloc, Manila.

According to Coronel, although footage from the barangay closed-circuit television camera in the fraternity library area could no longer be secured, the identities of those who were present in the hazing rites were provided by several witnesses.

He refused to cite names though “pending the submission of evidence” to the Department of Justice.

“We are facing a law fraternity whose members are in different branches of government, the executive, judiciary. So ineexpect namin na ququestionin ang ebidensiya namin,” he said.

Based on testimony provided by John Paul Solano, a primary suspect in Castillo’s death, which was made public in a Senate hearing on Wednesday, present in the library when he arrived after the hazing rites were alleged Aegis Juris president Arvin Balag, Axle Hipe, OJ Onofre, Mark Ventura, Daniel Ragos and Zack Abolencia.

He said he was unsure if there were others there as the library had two rooms.
