(Eagle News) — A mother and her son were arrested after anti-drug operatives seized shabu or methamphetamine hydrochloride worth P163 million in a buy-bust operation in Sta. Ana, Manila on Tuesday, June 12.

The Northern Police District reported that Ruby Calabio, 61, and Ian Akira Calabio, 20, were arrested for possession of a luggage bag containing 24 kilograms of shabu that were wrapped in tea packaging.

According to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde, the said illegal drugs were likely imported abroad.

“This [is] indicative doon sa nakuha din nating 650 kilos na shabu that was being smuggled sa Valenzuela na narecover, so there’s a big possibility na ito ay smuggled papasok sa ating bansa,” Albayalde said.

The buy-bust operation started in Caloocan City, wherein the authorities seized 20 grams of shabu and arrested two suspects who revealed that their source was in Sta. Ana.   (Mar Gabriel, Phoebe Salvador/ Eagle News Service)
