MMDA: No more towing of illegally parked vehicles on major roads, alternative routes

Violators to be fined, instead

(Eagle News)–The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will no longer tow illegally parked vehicles on major roads and alternative routes.

In a statement, MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia said this was because “there are many complaints about abusive towing firms.”

“We do not want the efforts of our traffic personnel to go to waste because of them,” he said.

According to Garcia, motorists will instead be automatically slapped with at least a P500 fine if their vehicles are found parked on Edsa or other major routes, or on any of the  17 designated Mabuhay lanes from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Of the P500,  P200 is for illegal parking, P150 for disregarding traffic signs, and P150 for obstruction.

Garcia said the MMDA will only resort to towing in inner lanes if  requested by local government units.
