MMDA: Full implementation of driver-only vehicle ban on Edsa during rush hours suspended for now

Dry-run of scheme to continue, however

(Eagle News) — The full implementation of the driver-only vehicle ban on Edsa during rush hours originally scheduled on Aug. 23 has been suspended.

This is according to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority General Manager Jojo Garcia, who held a press conference on Friday, Aug. 17.

According to Garcia, the Metro Manila Council needs to convene first on the policy before its full implementation.

Garcia said, however, that the dry-run of the scheme, which started on Wednesday, Aug. 15, will continue until the MMC convenes.

He also stood by the policy, saying the ban would only be in place for three hours in the morning, and another three hours in the afternoon.

The MMDA had said the scheme was aimed at decongesting Edsa from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., from Monday to Friday.

Earlier, senators expressed their opposition to the scheme, which some said was drawn up without prior consultation.
