MMC approves several MMDA traffic-related proposals

Katipunan Ave., among others, to have “non-exclusive” motorcycle lanes, one approved proposal says

(Eagle News) — The Metro Manila Council on Thursday approved several traffic-related proposals made by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to curb traffic in several major thoroughfares.

In a statement, the MMDA said the MMC, composed of Metro Manila Mayors, approved the resolution amending the uniform light truck policy that bans cargo trucks with a gross capacity weight of 4500 kilograms and below on Edsa and Shaw Boulevard from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., and from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; approved the establishment of “non-exclusive” motorcycle lanes in some roads; and approved the enforcement of the No Physical Contact Apprehension Policy in other aspects.

Under the amended uniform light truck policy, light trucks are now banned from traversing the two major thoroughfares from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., from Monday to Saturday.

The new “non-exclusive” motorcycle lanes  will be situated from Katipunan Ave. to Sumulong Highway and vice versa, from MIA Road to Anda Circle and vice versa, and from Elliptical Road to Quiapo, the MMDA said, while NCAP will be enforced to curb the presence of illegally parked vehicles on major roads.

MMDA Chair Danilo Lim emphasized the role of motorcycle lanes on Edsa, Macapagal Boulevard, Commonwealth Ave., and President Carlos P. Garcia in instilling discipline among motorcycle drivers,  in pushing for the presence of the same in the other roads, and the role it would play in curbing vehicular congestion there.

He said the NCAP has also been effective in catching traffic violators. Meanne Corvera
