Millions troop to INC event despite traffic, rain

Where there’s a will there’s a way.

Heavy rains and heavy traffic did not deter millions of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) members from attending its 100th anniversary celebration at traffic in Bocaue, Bulacan.

At least 10,000 buses and thousands of class 1 vehicles trooped to the event as early as Saturday noon. Many more are expected to trickle in through Sunday morning.

Reports said that a vast majority of INC members gathered before noon in Central Avenue, Quezon City and boarded thousands of lined buses to take them to Bocaue. This, coupled with rains and other delays, caused major traffic jams along Congressional Avenue and put the flow of NLEX to a halt.

As of 4 pm, MMDA and NLEX offcials were saying that traffic was still manageable. By 6 pm, motorists were complaining of the ‘bumper to bumper’ syndrome at the start of NLEX – this despite the adding of additional traffic enforcers and ambulant tellers in toll booths.

Recent traffic updates as of 10 pm revealed that the NLEX situation was still experiencing heavy traffic. Authorities have already advised the public to postpone their trips or to take alternate routes.

As much as 3 million people are expected to turn up for the celebration, which is supposedly seen as one of the biggest and most significant religious gatherings of any kind in recent history.
