Military to allow refugees to visit their homes in Marawi City starting April 1

(Eagle News) — Starting April 1, residents of Marawi City will be allowed to visit their homes and retrieve their abandoned belongings, according to Housing Assistant Secretary Felix Castro Jr., field manager of Task Force Bangon Marawi.

“The residents can go back and retrieve whatever possessions they have left behind,” Castro said in an interview.

Castro said the move would allow the displaced residents of Marawi to visit what’s left of their homes, and retrieve their abandoned belongings before the military starts the full rehabilitation of the area.

Officials said that residents of the war zone will be allowed to return in three batches, starting April 1.

“What we are doing is that by April 1, they will be allowed to visit their houses and get things,” he said.

“They will be given the opportunity to retrieve their belongings in preparation for the rehabilitation.”
