(Eagle News)–Metrobank founder George Ty has passed away.

Metrobank made the announcement in a statement issued on Friday, Nov. 23.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved founder and group chairman Dr. George S.K. Ty. He was surrounded by family and loved ones at the time,” Metrobank said.

Ty, 86, reportedly passed away after months of fighting pancreatic cancer.

The wake will be at the Heritage Park in Taguig, starting Nov. 25.

Ty was listed by Forbes as the ninth wealthiest man in the country, with a net worth of P2.75 billion.
