MRT-3 to resume regular operations on Friday morning

(Eagle News) — The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT 3) is expected to return to its regular operations on Friday morning after a technical malfunction occurred in one of its trains on Tuesday night.

According to Transportation Undersecretary for Railway Cesar Chavez, the safety check on the MRT3 trains is expected to be completed by Thursday evening.

Chavez said that the management has decided to decrease the number of trains of the MRT3 and to reduce the speed to 20 kilometers per hour from the usual 40 kph for the safety of passengers.

“The DOTr, under the leadership of Secretary Arthur Tugade, is apologizing to our commuters who are experiencing the current delays in the MRT3,” Chavez said in a TV interview.

“The safety of our passengers is our paramount concern, that is why we decided to reduce the trips of the MRT.”

MRT3 director for operations Deo Manalo said the systematic check of the entire MRT3 fleet is needed after the axle of the bogie system under the train driver’s coach broke down.

Manalo earlier already announced that the railway system would have limited operations from 2 p.m. Wednesday until Saturday.
