Business operations in Eton Centris, back to normal after guard surrenders

(Eagle News) — Normal operations resumed in a commercial establishment in Quezon City after an off-duty security guard caused fear and panic near the area on Wednesday, June 21.

The security guard allegedly armed with a 9mm pistol holed himself up inside one of the buildings’ rooms in Eton Centris around 5 a.m. Wednesday. He was reportedly drunk.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said that the security guard, identified as Hermigildo Marsula Jr., had family and financial problems. He also did not fire his gun.

“Gusto kong linawin na walang amok, walang amok na nangyari. Hindi nagpaputok yon. Hindi nagpapaputok. Siya’y isang security guard na may problema at nagkulong siya sa isang maliit na kwarto,” Eleazar said in a radio interview.

He also clarified that only the room where Marsula was hiding was the part that had been on lockdown.

“Yun ang ni-lockdown natin isang maliit na [kuwarto]… The building and then the rest…other public buildings tuluy-tuloy ang kanilang business, tuluy-tuloy ang kanilang trabaho dito,” the QCPD chief said.

Marsula surrendered to the authorities past 8 a.m., after hours of negotiations.
