SOUTH NYACK, NY (Eagle News) — The first Nor’easter of 2018 quickly evolved into a blustery mess of wind, rain and snow. The Village of South Nyack, New York, a town north of New York City was hit with a wintery mix causing many trees to fall, resulting in downed power lines and power outages throughout the village.

According to the village’s official website, Mayor Bonnie Christian declared a state of emergency due to the dangerous conditions around the town. Electrical wires and fallen debris from trees have caused multiple road closures and hazardous driving conditions. Schools have been dismissed early and all residents are strongly encouraged not to leave their homes.

This type of storm is commonly referred to in the region as a Nor’easter since the storm or winds come from the northeast.
