Manila judge asked to inhibit from Castillo hazing case

(Eagle News) — The Manila Regional Trial Court judge handling the cases filed against 10 Aegis Juris fraternity members over Horacio Castillo III’s death has been asked to inhibit.

Citing his ties to the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption’s Dante Jimenez, accused John Robin Ramos and Juan Miguel Salam asked Branch 40 Judge Alfredo Ampuan Jr. to refrain from handling the cases for violation of the Anti-Hazing Law filed against them.

Ampuan, the two said, is Jimenez’s brother-in-law.

It was Ramos who issued a warrant of arrest against Ramos, Salam, and their co-accused Arvin Balag, Ralph Trangia, Oliver John Onofre, Mhin Wei Chan and Axel Munro Hipe, Danielle Hans Rodrigo, Joshua Joriel Macabali and Marcelino Bagtang over Castillo’s death.

Castillo, a University of Sto. Tomas law freshman, was killed due to injuries believed sustained during hazing rites conducted by the Aegis Juris fraternity.
