(Eagle News)–Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Monday, Aug. 13, vowed to make the military officials involved in the P17-million health services mess accountable.
“It is unfortunate that this happened at a time when the (Department of National Defense) and (Armed Forces of the Philippines) enjoy the trust and confidence of the Filipino people. We will ensure that those responsible will be held fully accountable for their actions,” he said in a statement.
In fact, he said “investigations (into) the other individuals who might possibly be involved are still on-going.”
“We assure the public that the DND and the AFP are sensitive to irregularities such as these and vow to continue safeguarding our institution against similar incidents in the future,” Lorenzana said.
At least 20 were sacked by President Rodrigo Duterte after an AFP probe confirmed the P1.5 million worth of anomalous transactions in the V. Luna Medical Center made by a whistleblower, the Palace said.
The military said the P1.5 million covers only five transactions.
It said all in all, 17 transactions are under probe.
