The most expensive food in the world

QUEZON City, Philippines (October 28) – How much do you spend for a single meal? Is it worth a thousand, a hundred or the cheapest available? How about the measure of servings, quality or simply its presentation? Do you consider those?

I know that each one of us has our own standard on buying food. Most of the Filipinos would prefer more of where they can get more savings, but for those who spend much just for a single food, look at the following and decide if you would take it, or just leave it. These are the most expensive meals in the world.

  • Westin Hotel Bagel

White truffle infused with creamy cheese topped with edible gold makes this bagel worth a thousand dollars. Yes! That was not just a typo. To avail this Westin Hotel Bagel, you must at least have a grand in your pocket.  This is a creation of Chef Frank Tujague, the Westin Hotel’s executive chef. I know that the amount of this four-figure bagel is really insane but the hotel is located around Times Square. This one’s still cheaper for the people living there, not a problem anyway.

  • Domenico Crolla Pizza

This 12-inch pizza was created by the Scots-born Italian Mr. Domenico Crolla, who also runs the award-winning restaurant Bella Napoli. The beautiful combination of tomato sauce, alcoholic beverages infused in savory ingredients, the caviar soaked in Dom Perignon champagne, lobster marinated in cognac, venison medallions, the finest prosciutto and vintage balsamic vinegar and smoked Scottish salmon adds up to a hefty $4200.  The pizza is topped by 24-carat edible gold as garnishing.

Chef Crolla created the world’s most expensive pizza so that he can raise money for the Fred Hollows Foundation.

Once, a Densuke Black Watermelon that weighs 17 pounds sold for about $6100. What makes it expensive isn’t hard to answer. Unlike the ones first mentioned, this one don’t need gold to be costly, its rarity is more than enough. Aside from the fact that it can only be harvested once a year, it only grows in Hokkaido, Japan. The sweetness, crispiness and hardness of this watermelon is totally perfect.

  • Almas Caviar

From the depths of ancient history, it was said that it was the Persians who first consumed this most luxurious food known to mankind. The eggs of the sturgeon fish is believed to enhance the physical strength and endurance of a person once eaten. The older these eggs get,  the more elegant, smooth, aromatic, delicious and spongier in texture. Caviar is usually sold in 24-carat gold tins. The most expensive is the exclusive variety called Almas, which in Russian means “diamond”, and its price is almost as high as that of the precious gemstone at $25000.

  • White Alba Truffle

Truffles are already known for being very expensive but this Italian White Alba truffle is one of the rarest kinds of truffles you can buy. The reason why truffles are so expensive is because they are difficult to cultivate.  And then, there’s the flavor. Once, a 1.51 grams of Italian White Alba Truffle was sold for $160,000 to a Hong Kong couple.

Yes, I know that all of those foods are jaw-dropping but they are true. Maybe, some people do really have more money than sense. Now, would you be willing to fork over a cash or would rather make these items on the cheap yourself? Take it or leave it?
